Films are an inclusive genre that intended to portray the life as it is for every common man to observe or listen to. From the very first day of the establishment of the bollywood industry, the directors and producers are trying to interweave the major subjects as well as ideas that are innovative and unique for everyone. For this reason they imitate or copy the plots of the western movies or their novels. As we can find most of the Indian movies that are based on dramas and novels to amuse the audience appropriately. Most of the Indian directors have followed the stories of old novels that were written by famous playwrights such as William Shakespeare, Sophocles, Euripides, August Wilson, Samual Beckett, Henrik Ibsen, Eugene O’Neill, and many other writers.

While discussing about such genres of the movies, the name of Vishal Bhardwaj has come first in our minds. He has produced many movies in the realm of the Bollywood industry but his three movies are negotiable which are based on the stories of Shakespearean plays. Vishal is the name which is considered as much important as it should be in this regard. He has made movies like Omkara, Maqbool and Haider which are based on the stories of Othelo, Macbeth and Hamlet. Besides these movies, there are also some other movies directed by other innovative filmmakers. These movies are somehow different from the original stories of the plays or novels by emerging different dialects of the language and the tarka of the songs like sad songs, pop songs, remix songs and other genres of the songs that harmonize the relevant scenario.

Now-a-days, there are also seven directors who are experimenting to draw the seven deadly sins in their movies. . Undoubtedly, besides these seven directors there are many other film directors who have also revealed such sins from the very first day in different shapes as well as occasions in their movies. But among them, the names like Vasan Bala, Hansal Mehta, Sudhir Mishra, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Anurag Kashyap are on the top of the list in this regard. The other two names of such directors have not been finalized yet. This is the novel idea which was abstracted by Sunil Bhora and he has thrown his words out,

                                   “There are several stories which are better told through a short film.
                                   My company Bohra Bros will give it a proper release and based on
                                   the response, we plan to get seven other directors to make a similar
                                                           film on the seven virtues as well.”

According to the holy book ‘Bible’, the things that are really detestable and unable to bear in the society should be dropped by a man. These prohibited things which are also known as deadly sins, are given below as;

Lust for sexual desires as well as other materialistic things.

Envy is out of the range of limited things.

Gluttony is excess to fulfill the mouth desires.

Greed or Avarice is an inner indulgence which urges the person to take more and more.

Wrath is an inner power that is out of control of a person in his anger or distress moments.

Pride is considered as a major sin that has taken place in the Garden of Eden.

Sloth is the last but not the least sin of this list of sins. It is a kind of laziness which is related to religious as well as physical body. It is very much serious sin that exists with the lack of strong trust on the existence of God.

These seven deadly sins are mentioned in the Holy book of the Christians’ Bible as,

      “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto
     him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running
to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord
among brethren.”

Keep these things in their minds, the bollywood directors have come up with such ideas to produce the films based on the seven sins. The bollywood movie 7 Khoon Maaf is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and the story of the movie is based on the novella of Ruskin Bond’s ‘Susanna’s Seven Husbands’. In the title name, the number 7 indicates towards seven deadly sins. Susanna’s each husband shares his life with her with the sign of these seven sins.

1. Sunil Bohra:

On the other hand, In this regard, Sunil Bohra is another important name because he is intended to make a movie along with other six directors that will be based on these seven deadly sins and this movie will be divided into seven portions. To fulfill this purpose, he has collected five directors, including himself, who have worked on these sins and further he is still trying to find out more two directors that will work with the collaboration. The film will be comprised two hours and each section will be contained the duration of 15 minutes. The seven deadly sins are divided among these directors as Sunil Mishra has quoted,
                                 “Envy is my sin! I am making a film on it as I feel envy is an extremely
                                 strong emotion – one that can do the maximum damage. I always enjoy
                                 doing short films and this is an exciting collaboration because of the
                                                            concept and the people involved.”

2. Anurag Kashyap:

Anurag Kashyap is an innovative filmmaker who has made many famous movies to amuse the people. He has not selected any sin for his short movie as Sunil has mentioned that,

                  “Anurag has informed me that he will take up whichever theme remains unselected by the others.”

3. Hansal Mehta:

Hansal is a legendary film director of the Bollywood industry. He has stated, “Yes! We will be collaborating on this yet-to-be titled project. I will be doing a film on gluttony as it also happens to be my personal weakness. My story should be ready within a week. The film will roll next month.”

4. Vasan Bala:

Vasan has already penned a movie which is based on the sin Sloth.

5. Tigmanshu Dhulia:

Tigmanshu is one of the famous filmmakers as he has contributed most of his films to the realm of the Bollywood industry. He has also decided to choose the sin which will be left by the others. The rest of the directors will select the other sins according to their own choice.

To sum up the whole discussion into a nutshell, we can say that the Bollywood movies although are considered as a great source of entertainment but they also depict the real situations of the life of a common man. The movies that are based on these seven deadly sins or other religious crimes, are specifically measured as the complete class of diversion. These movies have the basic purpose to illustrate or reveal the major things that are contradictory from the other movies that are based on the stories like love, hatred, marriage, revenge and other corresponding topics. These movies are regarded as the classical movies which have contained the stories that are considerable. These movies have served the tributes to the bollywood directors as they represent the classical stories of the movies in the way that promote the literary taste and amuse the contemporary audience.
