Consequences of Persuasion and Resistance

Consequences of Persuasion and Resistance
What is persuasion? What purposes does it basically promote to? And what the elements it has contained to become as an essential for everyone?

There are many definitions of persuasion regarding to the above mentioned questions but here we have a few of them. According to the philosophers,

“In making a speech one must study three points: first, the means of producing persuasion; second, the language; third the proper arrangement of the various parts of the speech.” (Aristotle)

Aesop, an ancient Greek fabulist as well as story teller, defined this term as, “Persuasion is often more effectual than force.”

Persuasion is a literary term that refers to the behavior and the attitude of a person who has influence to convince others with communication rather forcing. It can permeate over the conversation of the people and geared new ideas as well as sketches or transformed new ones in the minds of the people just to change their minds. Some are of the opinion that persuasion is a ‘Communication to influence choices,’ or the others assume it as, ‘a process that changes attitude, belief, opinion or behavior.’

Is there any need remaining to tell about the importance of persuasion? Some people are always confused where the persuasion exists? An African-American abolitionist as well as orator, Henry Highland Garnet says, “Let your motto be resistance! resistance! RESISTANCE! No oppressed people have ever secured their liberty without resistance.”

Persuasion is not different or separate from the other literary term, resistance. People resist the things which they dislike and this idea is also expanded by Thomas Jefferson as, “When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty.”

The idea is clear that persuasion will exist wherever resistance will be occurred. We considered resistance as it is the sole reason for the existence of persuasion but on some grounds, this idea is being neglected by the innovative researchers. They have their own views about persuasion as well as they have also some grounds that they gather and consequences with those researches that have done over the communication, socio-psycho affairs, marketing, and political psychology.

The researchers argue that persuasion has a purpose to boost up the power of any note or message. Resistance to persuasion is a side discussion for the critics and researchers. The waves that have been generated through different TV programs, shows, movies, songs, magazines etc are the sources to provide us opportunities for the exposure with friends, colleagues, family, and so on. The idea suggests that the person who has many social contacts and rich with friends, can avail more opportunities for persuasion with the occurrence of resistance.

To conclude the above discussion into a nutshell, we can say that resistance and persuasion both are interlinked with each other. It is not necessary for resistance to occur wherever the persuasion is, but it is essential for persuasion to be occurred only where the resistance has occurred. The social media has played the pivotal role to persuade the people in various ways. They have introduced new techniques such as scarcity of goods, reciprocity their commercials, delivering desired messages, entertaining programs including movies, reality shows, video songs and many other things. The people who have lack of knowledge, can make their minds up without raising new questions in their minds and thus, can easily be persuaded.
